Welcome  to our church.

A  Millennium of History awaits your visit.

The parish church of St. Mary, High Bickington is a place of worship for the whole community, young and old. The Church is situated within the centre of High Bickington, in North Devon between the rivers Taw and Torridge.

This place  of Christian Worship was originally built in Saxon times.  King  Athelstan (925 - 940), grandson of Alfred the Great, resided for a time at  Umberleigh and in about 930 he gave land to support a priest and build a church  for High Bickington and Atherington. At about 1100 AD, after the Norman's had  reorganised the conquered Saxon lands, a stone building was erected on the  present site.
The Revd. Michael Clark is the local vicar.

Todays verse from the Bible

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”
(1 John 1:7)

Church News

  St Mary's, Tower and Bells.
We now know that the total cost of the repair project will be close to £249,000. This includes VAT, the large majority of which will be recoverable. We are thankful that English Heritage were able to increase their stage 2 grant by  £30,000 to £130,000 and we have applied for a number of other grants to close the gap on the total needed. We continue to be grateful for the ongoing
fund raising and donations from the wider community. As well as this we have recently had some good news about the Grant from the Church Building Council, so overall we are feeling happier about the funding of the project.

The repairs are going well, and the Bells are now back in place and been rung several times.
Thank you!
To all who have helped in any way towards the major repair works to St Mary's Church High Bickington over the last few
years.

The bells are ringing again!

The  Church Hall
The internal decorating is now complete and the new curtains have been hung.
The school are now using the hall for lunches as well at other times, allowing the use of the old kitchen to help accommodate the growing number of children in our catchment area. The hall is still be available for general hire although obviously with some restrictions.
